The Greatest Blessing

A 48-minute talk by Neville Goddard, restored from an archived recording

Neville Goddard discusses a strong imagination as the greatest blessing, illustrating how assuming another's identity can influence outcomes. He relates this to the biblical principle of God's fixed intention to form man into the image of Jesus Christ. Stories of individuals assuming 'I am Jesus Christ' and experiencing involuntary scriptural fulfillment are shared, linking the law's application on the earthly level to spiritual unfolding.

The Greatest Blessing Defined

I would call it the greatest of all blessings. Like all things in Scripture, they are on this level. Why to take it on this level? If I take it on this level, then tell a little story to illustrate it. that the greatest of all blessings would be a strong imagination, a clear idea, and a determined vision of things as we desire them to be, all clearly seen in our minds. And never waver from that paper. Regardless of what you hear, regardless of what rumor comes into your world, just as you call the imagination a clear idea and a determined vision of things as you would like them to be, which would imply the fulfillment of a dream, your dream, on this level.

That That same formula holds good for us on the higher self. It is held in the divine mind. And his dream for us is never to make man in our end. And that is never halted, never wavered. It still remains fixed in the divine mind. Regardless of what we go through in this world, that remains fixed. so that you must come out. You and I, on this level, we may wake up and break the image and feel that the law doesn't work. But on the highest level, for us, there is no waiting. God is faithful. You can trust him in this way to produce in us the image which is the image of himself. Let us make mass in our age.

Golf Story Illustration

On this level, let me show you in a simple way, how this goes on. I received a letter, yes, from a friend who was here tonight. Another friend who also is here tonight, shared with us an experience of his. He gave us a remarkable defense, fantastic defense. He took many, but he told them to refuse, that he had assumed the personality of that other. And then, while he had all that personality, he simply gave to himself as that being. What that being could not be himself. Well, this is it. Jean -Claude Hibernate. He said, I play golf. I don't play the whale, but I play golf against it. And so, a friend of mine said to me, one with whom I played time and again, What about a game tomorrow?

And I accepted the invitation. So, that night, the night before the game, I assumed I was my friend. I entered his body. and then wearing the body of my friend. Herbert will wait for you, come right up here. And assuming the body of the friend, he then complimented himself on every stroke on the game that he played. So he played the part of his opponent, complimenting himself on the game that he played. And next day, I would say, first of all, he says, we're not the best players. We only play nine holes. And we almost come, I would say, equal. He'd do it with 56 or 57 throws. That is our score for nine holes.

So he says, the next day we played, and it was sheer fantasy. Everything just went like to me. At the end of the game, I won by 10 throws. And he, at every hole, would compliment. He said, then my fucking was just the amazing. Every, and I'd never done it before. Nothing was better. But he said, no, I didn't intend to beat him. That was not the better. But I intended to show you how it all worked. I went to his arm of palm and there was a lie. Undoubtedly. He wouldn't tell me to the body of Mclaren. And have Jack compliment him on every call, then who is going to win? I just say, this is how the law works.

Assuming I Am Jesus Christ

A strong imagination, a clear idea, and a determinate vision of things as you want them to be. And to not waver in that faith. And this is how the Lord works in this world of ours. God on the higher level holds up, holds everyone in his mind's eye to form everyone into the image of himself and that image is Jesus Christ. Now I asked you a few weeks ago to assume, as you'll be tired of time, that you are Jesus Christ. I have a premise for it. Just assume I am Jesus Christ. For if that is the root, then you will grow from that root. All things bring forth after their time. For a few hardly so have the courage to find I can tell you my children and I that from this small voice, three men, two are present tonight, one is not, but he was here last Tuesday.

On the basis of this assumption, wrote me the invention. Now here is the question. This chap assumed, I am Jesus Christ, and I feel what it would be like to be a version of Jesus Christ, and follow him. And he found himself sitting on a long table with vented leaves, just as he would in a pot, there fixing sprouts. out. And two first cousins were present. This man, like his cousin, were all born and raised in the Catholic faith. They could not claim today that they are practically Catholic, but they were born and raised in that faith. A discussion started, and my friend tried to persuade them of the reality of the power and the wisdom of God and told us that the power and the wisdom of God was spirit.

And they seemed to be shocked when he told them what he did about the power and the wisdom of God. He said, I am not making this up. I will show it to you in Scripture. This was written by Paul 2 ,000 years ago. This is all that it reads. He's talking it quite. And he tried to find a New Testament where he could turn to the first chapter of the first epistle of Corinthians, which is the 24th verse, to read this passage. And then he says, before finding the Bible, he says, in the scripture written 2 ,000 years years ago, the power and the wisdom of God was named Jesus Christ. And with that, it was a startling statement that the whole ream battled.

They banished he awoke from it all, and he remembered what he had reamed. But may I tell you, the whole purpose of life, If by God's law you found the earth, and many have tried to own the earth, great tyrants the world over almost offended you to try to own this earth. They've all failed. But if you did succeed in owning the earth, you'll make your exit anyway. Like the little grass that rips and the flower that falls. Everything goes that way. But if you only fulfill Scripture, for the purpose of life is to fulfill Scripture, that I have come, and my only purpose is to fulfill Scripture, Scripture must be fulfilled in me. And if you read it in the 24th chapter of the book of Luke, and he began with Moses, and then the prophets, and then the Psalms, and he interpreted to all of them, all that was said of him in Scripture.

Visions and Scripture Fulfilled

So Jesus Christ in man has been formed, as he's been formed, he unfolds system. So here is my friend who actually, in a state that you would call an involuntary thing, he is quoting Scripture. He is quoting the 24th verse of the first chapter, verse 3. He is unfolding scripture within himself by first assuming I am Jesus Christ. Now another one writes the letter and he says, I assume I am Jesus Christ. And I found myself walking down a highway moving towards an institution for men. I knew they were all men there, and they needed my help. And that was the purpose of my journey. I was going to help them. So as I went down towards this place, I entered the courtyard of the institution, and instantly an enormous dog jumped at me.

And I held him, and I put my right hand forward. It went through the collar and in some way held him, and therefore arrested his motion, so he did not really hurt. And then, as I held him, all he could do was complete a nuzzle on my neck. But that didn't harm him. But I saw men in the area, and I knew intuitively that these men had planned this trick. And they were enjoying the little trick of this seemingly vicious dog. All that I had in me of remorse was compassion for them. That's all that I had, just compassion. And then I had no resentment, I had no feeling of hurtness, fear of compassion, for these men would prod it and flame this brick against it.

Then I turned my back on the men, and I repeated the eleventh verse of the thirteenth chapter of 1 Corinthians. Now this is the verse. When I was a child, I thought as a child. I thought as a child. I reasoned as a child. When I became a man, I put childless things away. And then I wrote. Here is Scripture. Fulfilling Scripture in the unfolding soul. I say to him, he has to part with us. It always applies to me in a very strange way that everyone across the country as I go, they're always talking the words of Paul. may the soul begins to unfold. There are only two more verses left and the next really links it with the left.

The next verse, now we see through a left dark. Or as one translation has it, we see in a mirror. This. This is what they face to face. That's the 12th verse. And then we come into the 13th, which I know to be 3. When you stand face to face with the risen Christ, you will know the last verse. And it is so love, or rather faith, hope, and love, these three lies. But the greatest of these is love. So the next vision comes when you are brought into the presence of the risen Christ, a man. When you answer by quoting the last verse of 13 Corinthians, he embraces you. As he embraces you, you are fused with the body of Christ.

You are incorporated into the body of Christ. You are one with the body of Christ and one with the spirit of Christ. Then you are sent into this world to tell the story of the risen Christ. where this death by daring to assume I am Christ and he comes at the position in the moving drum of where he is in the unfolding soul what you are in the world of Caesar does not really happen. He may be tonight completely unknown even in his labor. He may have known the joy in the world of Caesar. He may be almost tongue -tied among people that will carry up to him or others, doesn't really matter. But in the world of God, the unholy self, there he stands in the midst of this wonderful drama, as they call it, in Grinston.

He's on the verge, he's only a verse away from it, because the self and the firm -need, they come together. Now I see in a murder scene the same face to face, and that comes right. Face to face comes with the answer, which is the greatest of the evil side. I'll tell you what, ultimately you are haunted, say, when you ask what is the greatest thing in the world. Now scripture also tells of symbolism, but I will not go into that. there. Tickle into the door. All that is so in the 22nd chapter of Tom. And in the story of part of him tomorrow. All that is recorded in Genesis in there. And there was a place for men only.

That's what he brought up. A place for men. And only men. And you're told in the 22nd Psalm that there was weakness. And the dog surrounded him. and the wicked ones in circles. So you'll know by the symbol of the dog who the wicked ones are. If you have a concordance and you look it up, I need not discover it from the back or you'll know exactly the kind of institution that it was. It's all part of the unholy circle. Now the third one who's out here to lie. Should I assume I am Jesus Christ? From that night of these letters, I found myself in an enormous amphitheater. Huge place. From the Jews to the government.

I was in the very place, the very bottom of the door. At the top, the view. And you were dressed as enormous people. And you were asking all of us if we would, with you, affirm, I am Jesus Christ. And so all who would agree to it would rise. And only a few of us rose. I rose. Just a few of us. And then together, you let us, and you said, I am Jesus Christ. And only a few could see normal ground in this empty theater. And then I wrote. Again, that is Scripture, not COVID -19. But that's Scripture, the fifth chapter of the book of John. There was the biggest crowd recorded in Scripture.

The 5 ,000. But to multiply it, it's a big crowd. This, from this description, would give you normal ground. Now this is the book or the chapter of the entire Bible that you can name, if you want to give it a name, C -7. Where they heard the story, the grand story is begun, and only a few could take it, and the majority couldn't take it, so they turned away never to walk with him again. for he said I am the living great that came down from heaven and they say well we know this man we know his father Joseph and we know his father Hancock and how did he say I came down from heaven then he said unless you eat the blood and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no license.

How could he say, unless he keeps the body and drinks the blood of the Son of Man, he calls himself the Son of Man, which is the Son of God. And he claims that the Son of God is one with God, that I and my Father are one. How could this thing be? So they said never to walk with him again. And he turned to the few who remained, just to Peter. And he said, will you also go away? And Peter answered, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have believed, and we have come to know, You are the whole one of it. They first heard it and heard it and believed it.

Eating and Drinking Christ

And through belief they came to know that he's free tonight to come to know the truth of the word of God. They know these words, not you. Tonight anyone here familiar with these words, familiar with the Bible, but when you are asleep you are not rationalizing. You see, spring like flowers coming out of a vine. You can't even think when you are not rationalized to think these things, because your strength seems to be based upon where you are in the unfolding field of life. And so here, we believe this, having believed that he has come to know us. You are the Holy One of the earth. The power of the eternal, the body of Jesus Christ.

I can have the biggest meal in the world. It's no earthly good to be on a diet. When I eat it, I assimilate what I can and what I can't. I fail. I've definitely failed. Well, I must first eat it. Well, how would I eat the body of Jesus Christ? By building a building, I am Jesus Christ. And all that Jesus Christ represents, as I read about it in Scripture, I assume, I mean, I may not be able to assimilate all that I am told concerning Jesus Christ. For I cannot find a liberate. For I can't stop eating and drinking his blood. By making a life within me, as I do so, things begin to unfold with him.

I must drink his blood to have life within me. I must drink his blood. And the eating and the drinking of this tea is simply I and He. We are told that there is only one Father, one Spirit, one God and Father of all, who is above all, through all, and in all. But if that is true, then I am not the believer, and I am asked to say our Father. He tells me I am the Father. If I am called upon to say our Father, and then the one who teaches me to say our Father says the I of God, will you please me to say the Father? I am the Father. Well then I assume I am He.

If I assume I and he can be the Father, then all that is left of the Father will be only foolish, the only body to begin to unfold in me to the deceit that I assimilate, that I cease to find and seek about. So here in the short order of three weeks, three minutes, all in their living to adhere, to act as tools to save the point of revealing what is said in Scripture. For the only reason for it all is to unfold God's Word, the Torah of Rebbe. So if you owned the entire world and Scripture didn't begin to unfold this, what would it matter? For we have known the whole vast world in the Torah.

And all are strengthened by the flower of the sea, the grass -wood, the flower of the world. But the Word of God endures forevermore. So this Word endures forevermore. Therefore let it unfold within us. It unfolds as you dare to assume I am right. But now I warn you. A little warning is advanced in the first chapter of the first epistle of Peter. If you invoke as followers Him who judges each one impartially, concerning their deeds. Then conduct yourself with awe till your entire life in exile. This is the exile. Everyone wearing this veil of flesh is exiled from heaven. While you are here, when you dare to invoke as follows, Him who judges, equally, impartially according to their deeds.

For when you judge your elders, don't think the night, the dirty hands, the unclean hands, all day, that you dare to invoke it because you're warned with tongue, fortune has. Yes, you are actually hundreds of powers of the universe, but it's yourself. If you're very weak, it is God. You are God. There is only God. There is nothing but God. God became what we are, that we may be as He is. For tonight, these three gentlemen, they didn't dare for one moment, or, or our business or our moment things, they were not worthy of church and of help to the angels, and they claimed I am Jesus Christ. And they were rewarded with the most glorious vision of worthy and change in Christ.

¶Scripture is not only in there. Scripture must be fulfilled in me. As if it were to fulfill itself in me, that I am wicked and I am healed. Who is the one who poised, who through His servants, the prophets, we call it, Scripture. What Goliath has been taking on this earth, as he does it with the gods, that's simply us. He realized after he did it, I hope, there wasn't too much of a bet against his friends. Unless he shares with the friends, he is dull in the pride. ¶Next time you meet this friend, you can tell the friend what it is. And then encourage the friend to try this. So that he would actually be in two ways.

Assuming the Other in Love

For I tell you, it works. It's something that cannot fail. If you will assume that you are the man that you want to be. Now, that effect of this great creative event that was given to us by my friend who was here tonight. He was home fighting, being the writer, he was the first medium through which it could come. But when you remember in your imagination, due to the other, what you do when you write a play, and in writing a play, you play all the characters. So you assume all the characters, even in a love scene. You may love the film. To find out what this one would say, what this one would react.

And if in the non -seeing, a step with the face is in order, you step yourself. Then in playing all the parts, you know exactly how to unfold it. Well now, in doing so, now do the same thing for one you will help, when you will find your imagination, focus the other. But the main problem that is that very next day, having received this revelation, He cried it out. And with what thought things had failed. Then, the following week, he wrote me another letter where he warned me to warn you. To do it all with his love. For the first time he did it, he simply assumed that he was the one he wanted to help, and her immediate need was a car.

So he simply assumed he would finally add this one, the new car with the top down and the rim blowing in her face. It was a woman. In the immediate presence, her mother gave her the fellow money to buy the car and justified the gift by saying since she did not have a car, she has not been seeing her as often as she would like to see us. And so she gave the money so that when she had the car, she could pay more bills to the So the new car, and it's his, with the top down, and the same base, and the same color, that he came in the magic safe road. The identical makes, the identical colors, and the top down was incredible.

And that's the car she bought, without knowing what that man did. Then with the new car, she said to him, to get that certain body out of her life. but do it without a sink, do it without a fitting. He on the other hand, when he once was doing her body, he was locked in her body and couldn't get out. He couldn't get out to fix out. And when he finally got out and disengaged himself from this association, he was so emotional and mentally and physically exhausted, he followed me and set forth for a federal unbroken hour. So, very nicely and wisely, he wrote me another letter, asking me to tell you, who heard the first aspect of this wonderful working of the law, not to do it, say you do it in love.

For you may be lost in that which you thought to go to hell and he got lost in something of the now for God is love. And so if you do it in love you can't go wrong. You would do it and you would disengage yourself as easily as going in and out of an open door. So that is on this level. On the highest level you are exactly where you sat this night, the more I if you dare I can't say that all of you here will hear my friend said to me that the two cousins of his raised as he was a Catholic their father was blaspheming and said he to himself that he disemboweled his defense and I have been told the same story of Jesus Christ a few years ago I would have felt as you feel now he didn't criticize He knew how they felt, but he didn't tell them.

Said he, a few years ago, would have thought the same thing. Thought it to himself. But now, having heard it, having applied it, and worked it on this level, he knew that this power was Jesus Christ. I've told you the truth, sir. My friend, who told us all this, he was actually hoping the 24th verse of the first chapter of 1 Corinthians that the spirit that is called Jesus Christ that this is the power and the wisdom of God personified as a man but you're a man for the power is in you it's being forced into the image of God but that power operates through the agency of man and when it's formed in you through the perfect image of God Well, that shell is broken and you come out.

But you still remain here in this world, playing your part until that moment in time when the veil is taken off and the signal is on the left side. Everyone will actually be incorporated into the one body. So I've mentioned, when I wrote it in that Citrus Ine's pamphlet of mine: He breaks the shell. They were gathered one by one to be united into a single man who is God. What a shock to the whole vast world when my friend saw the enormous crowd, almost like a turban, because were I at the top and he at the bottom, it couldn't really be an arena. As he described it, this great amphitheater. How quickly! I should be down at the bottom, addressing the crowd.

But here I was at the top, the apex, addressing this crowd almost like a great tournament. And they're all seated and I was quick to behead. But only a few will rise, only a few have the courage to claim I am that. Three weeks ago when I made this statement, there was a chap here, he's got a family of seven, his wife and children and all, and he made a date to see me the following Tuesday. It was a Friday night on that day, to take a picture. And he had a date to see me on Tuesday. That was made before the election. He did not keep the days. He had him own him. He had him with him, not a crowd of him.

He, seven of them, all together who came, they were symbolic of the crowd who cannot take it. He had this concept of Jesus Christ as some being who lived and died 2, 000 years ago, and hope to see him come in some place where there may be a glorified man, but he wants to see a little man all glorified with life to save his world that's not Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the power and the wisdom of God buried in every child's door of hope, and everyone has to go through the same unholy and worthy God, that remains forever. Nations come and go, empires come and they fall, everything comes and goes, and withers just like the grass, and fall like the flower.

But the Word of God, which is the Gospel, the story of the Gospel, remains forever. It is unfolded in the interview. And so, practice the law on this level, that you will become familiar with it and have faith in Jesus Christ, who is the power and the wisdom of God. So you start on this level. And then, that something begins to unfold within you. And it unfolds in the automatic, involuntary manner, in the form of a dream or a vision. You go back and you search and you find in scripture the path that you have experienced and you're exactly where you said in the unfolding drama: you come to the end of Revelation when you say in the passage to in the foot of the Bible that God, the risen Christ, you incorporate, and then you go through telling your story as best you can of the risen Christ, what were the believers and not the Jews.

Eight Dramatic Events of Resurrection

Then you come to the grand secret of the event, and they are eight. They are eight. And eight is a symbol of the complete resurrection. And you start with the crucifixion. If we have been united with him in a shared side with him, if we have certainly been united with him, seen a resurrection like this. What the distinction in him. We have been united with him in a death like this. We shall be united with him in a resurrection like this. So here at the beginning with all, we all have been united with God. He tells us in Himself, before the world was. But all are crucified with Him. All crucified under His own This is the cross.

The next is the entombment. That's the second. And you are entombed within your own crown. That's where you are imprisoned. That is Golgotha. That's the great sepulcher where Jesus Christ is buried. The third is the resurrection. On the third day, the third came up out of the earth. Out of the deep, the earth came. The three is a symbol of a number of resurrections as stated in the Granite? On the third day you resurrect. You awaken within yourself. You find yourself in two. And then you come out. And the coming out, the symbol of your birth from above, is present in the form of a little skin for dust in the crossing of the mountain.

That's number four. Number five, the discovery of David. You find David. David is the son of God. He said, what my son today I have become. And you find him, and he calls you up. David, and only then you know who you are speaking of. It's only God in this world. And you know, even though you are limited by the search, that's who you are. But while you wear it, it's like a grand pianist who could play at the greatest instrument in the world. If you put a mist upon it, what will he do with the instrument? The greatest technician in the world, leading round as any grand piano that is beautifully tuned, everything is perfect, and he is the master of matters, but covering with a mist and asking to play.

Well, this is the mist that covers God. This is the veil. And so you find the inn. And you find your inn. Find your own being. And he called you in power. And you know who you are. And here is a wonderful being that he healed you with God's love. So that is the fifth. And then the sixth is the tearing of the curtain of the temple, which is your own body from top to bottom, and disturbing you in tune. And at the base of that point of yours, the blood of God, the golden liquid living life, and you know it is yourself. You tune with it. This is the self, and up you go.

In certain times, Paul, also for the Scripture. And then the eighth is the seal of the Holy Spirit upon you. Father, the saint is the doubt. And you know exactly what the told in Scripture. When the doubt returns to the earth, he puts out his hand and takes the doubt in. And the doubt comes into the earth in him. And that is the seal of the Gospel. And so the doubt does come. It is the symbol of the Holy Spirit and seals it forever. And you are sealed. Your inheritance, that is imperishable. And you still wear the gloves, you still wear the veils, until your time comes at the age of a very short interval.

Returning to the Feeling State

When you take it off and the world falls, it is day. And then for that first moment in eternity you really are reserved to eternal life. For here the greatest of all the blessings is simply a cold imagination. A clear, wonderful idea. An eternal vision of things as you would like to see, completely fixed in your mind. It is part from this level. I tell you, the story of the gospel is the idea fixed in the mind of God for you. He will not waver. He will not falter. But on this level, while we are there as we are and shut out, we can pray and push in our world and make it a lovely world for ourselves and for our friends.

Just as our friend did this for himself on the call tour, you can do it for another. You can do it for anyone in this world. You can take anyone that you love in this world, and you should eventually, and you really eventually love all. But it's all one anyway. And you will take one who cannot do for themselves what they want to do, and you will wear them as those you will give up. and you will gift yourselves what they could not give to themselves. And they will get it. And things will break forward. Lovely things, something that you imagine, not something that you promise and plan out of nowhere. All to you should be worth more.

Worth more, you would have the satisfaction of knowing that you use God's law wisely. And to use God's law wisely is always to use it in love. Whenever you use your imagination, nothing on behalf of others, you actually mediate God to that other. And let all things unfold in this world. So in the end, not one is greater than the other in the fall. Everyone is God. So in the end, you can truly say, as we're told in Ephesians, there's only one body, one spirit, One God and Father of us all, who is above all, who all, in all, only one. For I stood in the presence of the One, incorporated into that One without loss of identity.

So I know I am that body, the body of the risen Christ. I tell you, God is that. So when Blake made the statement, there was a man. God is no more. Thy own humanity learns to adore. Man finds it so difficult to believe that the infinite being is man. That is man. We are the fragmented man. But all of us gather together, one by one by one, to be united into a single man who is God. Now let us go into the silence. How often do you return to the same state? Well, it becomes constant, really. It's like going home tonight. You always return to the same place where you live, really. and that place to which one will constantly return constitutes their starting place.

So if you return night after night to the feeling of being wanted, being secure, being whatever you want in this world, that becomes a normal, natural starting place. So if you can actually make it tonight natural, you'll find yourself returning through the day to the feeling of being wanted or being happy or being whatever you want. So I can't say you can number it to one, twice, twice or what not. It is only up to you to make it natural. When it becomes natural, so that the mind returns directly, that's your running place. I've told you in scripture where you dwell, the essence, the common sense. Where am I dwelling? Well I dwell wherever I most constantly return in my imagination.

If in the course of a day someone is faced with a problem, and they find themselves thinking all their life on that problem, that's where they're dwelling, though they go through the wall of joy. The body is there, but they're not dwelling there. So where is a man dwelling? Like we have in our world, many a person. Many who are living in some wonderful neighborhood with horrible appearances, they see and enjoy what they know what they've done. And they know that the homes are awkward. And so they're driving where they know the homes are the final. In Bethlehem, you find it every day. You and I only get one little paper on the west coast, but they are thousands of papers across the time.

In every little hamlet he finds names who are prominent in the ideal world in their environment who are dwelling where they know what they've done and they know that the homes are against them or coming for them you find it every night, you read the Pentecost so where are you dwelling? You've been dwelling this night, I ask everyone to dwell this night in the house of Jesus Christ. Say, I am Jesus Christ. You may not be committed with all that he taught and all that he said of him in Scripture, for the whole Bible is about Jesus Christ. The entire Old Testament writes only about Jesus Christ and the New fulfilled it. So you just simply say, I am he.
