Five Lessons by Neville Goddard

Free download: PDF (140 pages, 330 KB) EPUB (94 KB)

A master class in six sessions. About 3.5 hours to read.

The master class Neville gave in Los Angeles in 1948: five lessons kept in their spoken register, followed by the question-and-answer session. Consciousness is the only reality, assumptions harden into fact, and there is no one to change but self. The fullest single account of the method, in his own voice.

What this book is about

Five Lessons records a week-long course in which Neville reads the Bible as psychological drama rather than history. In “Consciousness Is the Only Reality” he spells the divine name JOD HE VAU HE as a pattern of consciousness, then reads Adam’s deep sleep, Judah and Tamar, Isaac’s blessing of Jacob and the death of Moses as four pictures of one inner act. “Assumptions Harden Into Fact” turns to the trial of Jesus and the release of Barabbas, to Rahab at Jericho, and to the drowsy state he treats as the setting of all creation. “Thinking Fourth-Dimensionally” contrasts the natural mind, confined to the present instant, with a mind that holds past, present and future as one whole; here he tells the story of his own voyage home to Barbados. “No One to Change but Self” argues that love and hate alike change us into what we contemplate, and retells his visions from The Search. “Remain Faithful to Your Idea” sums up the course, reads the wedding at Cana, and describes imagining an action while the body lies still. A closing set of questions and answers applies the method to marriage, writing and public speaking.

Three passages

“The difference between the form of the Bible and its substance is as great as the difference between a grain of corn and the life germ within that grain.”

Lesson 1, Consciousness Is the Only Reality

“The only reason you and I are functioning as we are today, and are not aware of the greater outlook, is simply because we are creatures of habit, and habit renders us totally blind to what otherwise we should see; but habit is not law.”

Lesson 3, Thinking Fourth-Dimensionally

“Therefore, hate betrays us in the hour of victory and condemns us to be that which we condemn. All conquest results in an exchange of characteristics, so that conquerors become like the conquered foe.”
